I have a problem with my idle. The motor has been rebuilt, the carbs have been rebuilt, everything seems to be synced properly. The motor will not idle unless the throttle cable is adjusted almost all the way out. When the motor is cold as well as when hot sometimes will not start unless i spray starter fluid in the carb. In gear, the motor runs great. Also during warm up alot of times i have a ring of fuel in the water around the motor. I am trying to find out if there is any idle speed adjustment that i can make. As well as an air flow adjustment that needs to be made. I have looked at several manuals and still am having a hard time troubleshooting these problems. I NEED HELP, PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!

Hi scout....

Have you checked out the ignition system completely? A weak spark can be the cause of poor idle. I would highly recommend that you DO NOT use starter fluid to get the engine running. There is no lubrication with the fluid and you do not want to mess up a new rebuild. Go to the section in the manual covering the ignition system and check out the components. The fuel system is not always the cause of a bad idle.

Jim,
Thanks i will check out the ingition system. Another quick question.... the spark plugs are new, but if there is something wrong with them how would they impact my overall performance?Because right now anywhere above idle the motor runs great and smooth.
