working on the famous no sprak issue. Decided to remove all parts and clean up and check wires.

There is an extra part not shown on any schematic i can find. It is a small fused box bolted to the head on the port side lower piston of the engine. It is aluminum with a resin sealed back. What is it?

Also Can I test the timer base out of the engine? One coil shows continuity from the pick up to the grounded timer base and the other coil does not. Ther is continuity when checking the wires from each coil. No continuity when checking each wire to timer base as ground. New Stator last summer and new power pack last summer. Ran until I installed Kill switch lanyard and had the ingnition switch out. Check the switch and also tested for spark with the black and yellow kill wire removed. Must have burt something.

I believe you are talking about a voltage regulator. It didn't come with one, so somebody probably added it.

Ok Here is a picture of the part this is the forward side which mounts up against a metal plate that is mounted to the cylinder head. I think it is a temperature sending unit. Anyone have a clue?IMG-20121229-00039.jpg

Like F R said, most likely a voltage regulator. I have a 1975 Evinrude 135 hp Silver Starflite with a voltage regulator mounted to a plate which in turn is fastened to the upper port head.

Thanks,
Could the Regulator be bad? The problem started when I decided to intall a kill switch lanyard. (did not have one) The engine was running before I started the install.
I ohmed the switch and all works as should. I found a gray wire that the schmatics show as a tach wire. (it was cut and removed by PO. I extended the wire so I can install a tach later.
Results I have no spark.
1. Installed a lanyard kill switch and lengthend the tach wire.
No spark.
2. Removed the Black Yellow ground kill wire at the power pack
No spark.
Used a cheap meter connected to the Sensor wires and corresponding orange wire check of AC
No spark.
Begining of summer I replaced the Stator, rectifier, and Power pack. Was running then
but after kill switch install no spark.
Do you think I may have fried the regulator or timer base or something else?
