1975 evinrude 50 hp erratic idle

I bought this motor used a few months ago idled like crap, but other wise ran great, I bought two carb kits and rebuilt both carbs. Got the boat back in the water same issue, ran great but still no idle/ rough idle/ high idle, really all over the place. The boat will zip around the lake ( off idle- full throttle) great just won't idle consistently. I'm purely guessing and frustrated now and thinking power pack or timing sensor, any thoughts would be great. If one or the other, are there things to watch out for when replying either.

Have you got the carbs sync and linked properly ??

I think so.. Both sets of butterfly's slam shut at the same time, when i set the throttle valve butterfly's I disconnected the throttle linkage which allow both butterflys to completely close, reconnected the linkage which opened both slightly but equally.

Both must be completely closed at idle. Best you get the link and synch done correctly. Usually its only timing that advances on an engine for the first bit and then the carbs start opening so if you have too much fuel going through she will run rough like shes choking at idle

What does a compression test show ?--------Does spark jump a gap of 3/8" on both leads ?

Compression is 140 and 135

Buy an $8.00 open air gap spark tester at any parts house and set it to 7/16 " or 3/8 ".

So I have spent the last two weeks messing with this and what I came to is that the controls aren't working properly, as they have given me issues in the past. I have the warm up lever on the side type and I just bought the warm up lever on top type. The replacement controls didn't come with cables.Are the cables interchangeable? I would assume they are.
