i have a 1975 evinrude 70hp i changed the coil wires on it i went to the boat supply store and bought the wire and made them i also made them 12inch long instead of about 6inch now it wont go hardly at all it will crank and run great but you put it in gear and it hardlys moves across the water could this be cause the wires are to long it also has new plugs anyinfo would be a help thanks

You did use solid wire core wire didn't you? Have you checked the compression and does the spark jump a 7/16" air gap? You could try squirting some fuel mixture into each carb under load and see if it picks up.

had carbs rebuilt 3weeks ago and ran great till the one coil wire came out so i thought i would change all them

Do yourself a favor and replace the home made wires with factory OEM.

ok i will do that but this may sound stupid where can i buy the oem wires with out buying the coils the coils are good
