here is an idea on foam that I used. get yourself a stiff wire brush for the end of the drill and use the wire brush to chew up the foam. then use the shop vac to suck up the debris.

if your in a cavity that you cant quite reach, you can get one of the drill bit extenders.

Fred,

You go for it, cool boat and great to hear from fellow vets as stubborn as myself! I'm a 29 year guy (AF - Hot meals and cable TV!) so congrats on your retirement, well done. The foam is a bear, I used one of the methods recommended on this site, took a recip saw, plunged the tip and cut squares in it. Worked pretty good, but still very slow going. I'm still early in my restore so I will be cheering you on. I appreciate the back issues, I humped bombs for the better part of my career and I have my days, so I have to work on my Gal a little bit at a time. The folks on this site are chock full of outstanding advice and have got me going straight seveal times. Good luck, can't wait to see your progress.

Stay away from Rot Doctor. It's basically thinned down Resin. You need to use standard Laminating Resin. Finding it locally is a problem so your best bet IS uscomposites.com. Good prices and great to deal with. A good starting order for doing stringers, deck and transom would be..

10 - 15 gallons of 435 Laminating Resin
15-20 yards of 50" 1.5 CSM Fiberglass Mat
10 yards of 50" 1708 Biaxial Cloth
10 qts of Cabosil
2 lbs of 1/4" Chopped milled fibers.
5" x 1/2" Fiberglass roller

I'd use the Arauco plywood from Lowe's for the stingers. Much stronger and durable than hard wood. The extra 1/4" will be better too!
