I just purchaed a 1975 Fiberform 18.5Ft boat with a 120 OMC outdrive. I realize that the drive is designed to operate in the full down position. My question is can the drive be operated in a partial tilt position at low rpm when navigating shallow water or backing off a shore. I have not put the boat in the water yet and thought I should ask this question before doing any damage. My first outdrive.
Thank you, Dan

No........

If you Do,
You'll be Replacing the Ball Gears in Very Short Order..........
Along with Parts of the Tilt System.........

The ball gears on my 20' 302 are now 29 years old. Other than a bit of rust you can't tell them from new. On very rare occasions I will tilt the outdrive to get out of a tight spot that I did not mean to get into. Other wise the drive stays down. Recommend you do the same.
