I guess its time to say hello and start this thread (although that means I will have to start the work soon as well ) I've been stalking this forum over the last few months as I searched for my project boat and have learned a great deal from watching the other Starcraft restorations in progress. Last month I took the plunge and bought a 1975 mariner c.c. with a 73 65 horse Johnson. The floor is shot,Center console falling apart, control cables and steering frozen, wiring is a nightmare (even a strand of romex running under there for something:confused:) po decided to just throw another layer of plywood over the old floor and had been running shift and throttle by hand:( She might have ran last 4 years ago but not sure. The motor turns over though so not all is bad :D I also discovered my dads old boat has a 1972 65 horse Johnson on it (only about 2 years since it ran) so things are looking up:D All in all She is old and ugly but so am I;)
I bought the boat and a reasonably solid shorelander trailer for $700.00 and plan on restoring it for bay fishing on Lake Superior on the nicer days and it is still small enough for some of the larger inland lakes near here. I also got 4 decent aluminum downriggers with it and a large assortment of misc. junk in the boat. I am now in the process of cleaning out my garage and hope to post pics soon but not the most computer literate person so we will see. Anyway just wanted to say HI and thank everyone for all the great info already here in the ongoing threads keep it up! I would appreciate any and all advice and input as I progress and am sure I will have lots of questions thanks in advance.

Yooper, welcome to the madness of tin can restoration:)

That will be a nice rig for Superior...on nice days like you mentioned.

Pretty nice bonus that you got downriggers and misc gear with the boat. Good luck on the project, looking forward to seeing some photos.

By the way...love the UP, great place to do some boating:D (hope you have some room in the pole barn to work on the rig this winter!)

(even a strand of romex running under there for something:confused:)

Mine had that too! It was running from the battery to the fuse block under the dash. I wonder if that what Starcraft used.

Yooper! Welcome aboard! You'll find there are some great guys around here, all ready to give you a hand. Where might you be doing your big lake fishing? I have spent some quality time in the Picture Rocks area, Grand Island, Big Bay, Isle Royal, Apostle Islands... Man, all such amazing, rugged, and beautiful spots on that big lake you have up there.

Hey, we'd love to see some photos of your new rig!

Cheers!

Nah, if he hangs around here enough he'll quickly learn that a compliment is as common as a kick in the junk.

Rock on!

Re: 1975 Starcraft Mariner 18'

Sorry I haven't replied sooner been busy with work and trying to clean up the garage. I have a few days off so may get to the pics soon no worries though as I haven't done anything other than free up the steering boat is still a mess:D
I will mostly be fishing the area around keewenaw bay also enjoy getting out to the huron islands. I doubt I will get the boat completed this winter as I don't think i can fit in the garage entirely hoping to get it stripped and gluvit done before deer season/cold weather but at least stripped so i can make floor/console etc during the winter. Hoping to get her finished early spring but no real pressure and planning to take my time.
Also taking my time and following the other starcrafts in progress to see what ideas and info I can steal:cool:Thanks for the welcomes and thanks again for all the info in your threads keep it up
