I just bought a boat and the motor ran fine when I looked at it. A week later I tried to start it and it would not start. I swiched fuel tanks and squeezed bulb and cranked motor, no luck. I did smell a watery old gas smell. In took a truck spark plug to check for fire and it did not have a spark. I do not no much about this type motor. It is the 6cyl with elec choke, I would love to have it running again but I cant afford to take to marina. Thanks

The good old tower of power!
Sounds like a bad stator. Mine went bad too. you will need to by a 80 tool jest to get the flywheel off. Not cheap no mater how you look at it. The only way to be sure to with a dva meter.

Your engine should be battery powered CD (with a distibuter) so you don't have a ign. stator or need a DVA to test it here's a simple test for it.

You need a fully charged battery less than 9.5 volt may not spark and damage the ign. system. The carbs should be removed and cleaned but first you need spark
