1976 135HP EVINRUDE model# 135683G

It was fine for 20 minutes in the water and all of a sudden I lost forward progress, it whine up so I immediately shut it off. I cranked it back up and slowly push forward the throttle and it was grinding and motor now rev-ing up with little jerk movement so I put it back to neutral and try my reverse. The reverse was fine. I drove it back on reverse.
I haven't mess with it yet. I need some ideas of what I should be looking for. Never really had any serious problems with the engine. So I'm not mechanically incline when it comes to boat motor.

I had that happen with a Homelite 55 I used to have. The forward gear had sheared half its teeth, so the motor would wind-jerk-wind-jerk. It was unpleasant getting back like that. I replaced the pinion as well as forward and reverse gears, problem solved.

Thanks J, its nice to hear from someone finally. I wanted to see if anybody had experience the same problem and knew what it was. I wrote a post two days ago and had no replies, so I rewrote it in the hopes that I would get an answer.

Very nice work on the Silverline.

I have a 1971 17ft thunderbird and after looking at what you did with the silverliner. I may do the same but not to that extreme. I been thinking about getting a boat with a center console anyways... ;)

I looked at the manual for my 73 135hp and am 99% sure your clutch dog is worn out. They tend to wear out the fwd side since that is where the engine operates most.

Hope this helps.

Mark

I haven't touched it yet, But I hope it is. I do not want to get stuck with buying a forward gear for this momma Or even replace the all the gears. Ouch! I will probably sit and be very upset and leave it for next season's project. I will probably take my thunderbird 115 evinrude and just go bay fishing instead of fresh water fishing.
