1976 15 hp Johnson

1976 15 hp Johnson . Starts and runs great ,idles good .Runs on lake good , when I slow down to idle motor dies won't start back wait 5 - 10 minutes starts right up .new fuel pump new gas line rebuilt carb still does same thing . any ideas . MODEL # 15E76A= SERIAL # E4426596.

Try richening up the idle a little bit.

^^agree. Add that if you already have it dialed in so it runs and idles slowly -- and goes into gear without stalling, you may have it set right for your motor. You may just be throttling down lower than the original setting when out on the lake, stalling the motor. If so, you can adjust the throttle stop to limit throttling down. (Or....just be aware of the stall point, and operate that way. Throttle it down all the way when you want to stop the motor.)

Check for strong spark after shutdown and when it will not start.---Could be an issue with driver coil or condensers.----Have you cleaned set the points ?---Waterpump impeller replaced ?---Thermostat in place and working properly ?

^^^Check for overheating when it shuts down and won't quickly restart. Top of the head shouldn't be too hot to touch. (If you have an IR tester, shouldn't exceed 160F.)

Adjusted throttle stop I think that was most of the problem doing a lot better . Thanks
