i got a 1976 or 1977 150 hp merc outboard. did run great. last time out noticed a loss in power under a load. pulled the cover and noticed loose plug wires.... also water arond teh 6 plug or bottom plug.. . . it is an old motor but i like it alot. i got a manual . replaced the impellor and bought new plugs but not much difference in performance. . . i dont have a tach installed so i dont know my rpms or how to install one either. worth fixing or chalk it up to the salvage yard.

If and when mine goes 1975 150 h.p. You bet I will rebuild it. If you dont have the stuff, place or time to do it yourself; You can get a rebuilt pouerhead for around $1000.00 - $1500.00 on ebay or if you know anyone that builds them. Unless you have big bucks for a new one. Tim

Could be the lower seals are failing. If it's a fresh water motor it's definately worth fixing. Take it from someone who overhauls about 40 of the things a year. :)

-W

look at they wiring harness plugs. if alike, they should work on both motors. just bought a new/oldstock mariner control for my '71 1350. the wirng harness was shot. works like a dream.. $185.W ship ebay.
