well i'm a noob when it comes to outboards, i recently purchased an older valco with a 15hp ted williams outboard. the motor fires up nicely and fires on both cylinders. i'm under the impression that it is an air cooled powerhead/water cooled exhuast outboard. my only issue is the impeller. i know where it is an have taken it out a inspected it. my (question)s is the impeller blades or fins seem bent or curled a bit. it does pump some water out of the pee hole but not a superior stream and the water coming out does get quite warm. is this ok or does it need to be a stream simmilar to a jet on a waverunner?? aka the rooster tail? i ordered a new impeller from sears not cheap. could it possibly be the water tube traveling up to the power head? is there a seal up there? the tube didn't wiggle around a whole lot and i did use 10psi to blow through the pee hole to get any stuff that may be in there. other than that it runs like a champ. although the guy i bought it from said to use 50:1 mix to me that seems too lean any suggestions?? i figure 24:1 or 32:1

if you could supply model # ser# most likely we can cross reference it for you. most sears were built by eska and have tecumseh carbs and powerheads. i run 50-1 in my eska which is a 9.9hp. runs great thanks to the help of a few individuals on this website.water should be a stream like pee flow not a wave runner jet stream. your unit is water cooled so don't run it out of water or you will be replacing the impeller often. there are two seals on the water tube, one on top and one on the bottom of the tube. if you blew compressed air through the tube and had a steady flow you should be fine. being that you have a new water pump coming and are into the lower end replacing the lower seal wouldn't hurt for preventive maintenance. good luck on your project.

thanks for the reply 50:1 okay sound reasonable. yeah my has the tecmseh powerhead and carb.
yeah i know about running it out of water never done it. another question of mine would be the seal on the water tube the uppper one to be exact is it a simple o-ring or am i looking at something totally different, and how hard is it to change it? ie.. removing the powerhead? or is there some other way at getting at it? appreciate the feed back and thanks a ton narwhals.
