It will fit. BELLY tanks are easy to fit but real expensive. That's why I didn't get one. That would absolutely fit in my boat and probably Mike's. I think my stringers were like 7" or something. I could be mistaken. Yes you would need some foam but you could put foam between the ribs that would only raise the tank a fraction of an inch above the ribs.

6.5" deep(measured under the splashwell...may be deeper towards the bow)
19" wide

Just get an 18' SS next summer and save the tank for it

Well you know what I was thinking....

It crossed my mind to keep that smaller belly tank out of the Islander and save it for a "possible" future 16' rig. But that puts that idea to rest.

If I ever run out of fuel on the lake it would sure wouldn't be due to capacity!

Yah, an 18 footer would be nice but it would be a little big for the spring run of walleye up here on the Tittabawassee. But a 16 footer, ah, just right!

Speaking of ideas...

I did take the time tonight to actually mock up a seat over there on the port side...

I thought sure that cooler would be too tall, but ya know what, it's great! Maybe even the perfect height! Though I won't know for certain until I level out the boat and throw in some plywood which will add just a little height. Get the real feel of the set up.

I sat in that chair for a few minutes (those are comfortable chairs by the way) with my arm hanging on the gunnell there pretending that I was out on the big lake. You know - sun sparkling on the water, cool breeze, stuff like that. That was a great couple of minutes there.

Ahhhh, if only this old girl could float first, eh!

My very first post on the site so please bear with me.

My 89 mariner 160 (16') has a belly tank verry similar to that one from what I can see. It is up in the nose. I havent had the floor out as I bought it from a family member that had it done a year before I got it. I have had the front casting deck out and the end with the fill ports is almost identical. Mine is a 16 gal tank. Im working night shift now and if I can find time this weekend to look I will see if I can get to enough of the front of the tank to mesure it.

Keep in mind that the stingers are only riveted thru the ribs, not thru the hull...and that you can easily move them out just enough for that tank to be set into place as needed.

If you put the tank where my ski locker is it should be deep enough.

Don't give up on this idea just yet.

Ahh, it was just a passing thought. I still have one of these left that came out of the Islander (sold the other)...

I may be able to build this into a CC set up, or if I can sell it that would be ok too.

I can't think too much about this stuff, you know, about a 16' boat that I don't even own yet!!!

I am really torn about making that port side a helm seat plus a seat vs. one big bench. Huh....

I have had it for about 3 years but I bought it from my uncle who I fish alot with so its not so new to me. he had it since 1994. great solid little boat.....It was at the coast for a few years but not ran that much. other than the one in my avitar I dont have many pictures of it.......Guess I need to pull it out and get some good pics of it hugh.....Maybee this weekend.

I got up at four this morning and it is raining so climbed in front of the computer and read your thread from the start, it's now 8:35 lots of great info and confirms the great bunch of people on this site. Glad you stayed with the I/O, I don't think they are a expensive to fix as some would lead us to believe (EZ). With the SEI complete out drives available for $1100.00 and motors for $600.00>$1000.00 even a complete replacement is less than a rebuilt 90 hp Johnson out board cost me.
Once again great project can't wait to see it finnished.

I am bummed I can't spend too much time on her as of late and the way my calendar looks it'll be September before I can even start picking away again really. I am considering easing up on fall bow season to spend a little more time on er. My hope is that I can get that V6 running and installed before winter hits. It's a lofty goal for me as my skills as a marine mechanic are a total of zero.

OOOOOH don't get me started on my I/O rant again This site confirms my opinion more and more each day. Why mess up a wonderful simple tin hull with one of those cobbled together nightmare I/O's? Ask Kev if he'll ever buy another one. I pulled my outboard out of a field, cleaned a mud bee nest out of the fuel line, hooked up some gas and went boating. Basically did the same thing with the Jupiter too but that needed a little coin before the boating part.

The SEI OD's are a great deal when you consider it takes a shop 2xs that in parts alone, then labor..But I would be very VERY leery of any used block that some yahoo yanked outta the boat and has for sale..New from rapido marine would be the only option if I had the cashish..otherwise EVERY aspect of the used motor is suspect.ASK NB....It aint in the boat for a reason..
