Holy smokes! I just noticed my odometer is about to roll over! This is it, post number 4K!

Well, what I really want to say is, thanks guys!

The lot of you have made this a really great place to hang out. I appreciate all the help, knowledge, skill, encouragement, honesty, support, wisdom, and even prayers. I'll take it right along with the challenge, nonsense, jokes, sarcasm, and harassment.

Trailer is looking real sharp Jas. I can just imagine what the boat is going to look like when it is all done. The combo will be stunning I am betting, keep up the good work buddy.

Stunning? Uh, no. Not betting on that. My skills + the budget I have, I am just hoping for something that looks good at 20' and is functional. Appreciate the compliment though Kelly!

Got a couple of other small random things done yesterday, worked on the side panels too.

I also went after that bow eye. I debated on it, back and forth for a long time, whether to leave it or replace it.

I'll be honest, I was a little nervous to remove such an important piece but I went ahead.

Eye bolt out...

Took the angle grinder and cut the rivet heads...

That bracket was not budging so a big ol hammer and some heat to get it moving...

Off...

Cleaned up and sanded down...

I felt pretty good once I got to that last photo. With that big honking SS U bolt I swiped off the Baja, and some new paint, I think she'll look pretty good.

If I fail my finals, you will personally be getting the bill for this semesters tuition, as I spent about 6 hours reading this thread instead of studying!

I am in love with this thing, its been so awesome seeing your boat evolve, but I was really hoping for at least a sea trail by the end of 107 pages! Haha, you have gotten so much done, most people dont realize how much time all of the little things take! I cannot wait to see this rig finished, and also see your Jet rig finished! This boat is a tank, and is going to be beautiful when you get fully done with the restoration! Keep up the good work, you have given a lot of people great ideas, and have come up with a lot of good unique stuff! I am anxiously waiting for more updates!

So I?m remiss on following your thread and sorry about that. I didn?t know you had an issue with the eye bolt (or what every that thing is called). I know it?s too late but my buddy had the same problem. His solution was to grind it down till he had two flat surfaces then drill two holes and pass a new stainless eyebolt through it. The nuts on the back were accessed from inside the boat and a backing plate sandwiched the hull. The thing is solid as a rock and it looks great. Sorry no picture. Regardless keep up the great work.

HA! Actually I didn't have a problem till I took the angle grinder to it!

Yah, there wasn't anything wrong with it. I just wanted to swap it out for a beefy new SS one to match my eye bolts a the stern. Strong and should look good too.

I happened upon boatguy's last comment about fuel prices so I did some quick math, big mistake!

To pull in to the Marathon Station and fill up the Burb (45 gal) and the Islander (61 gal) at today's price (4.27/gal) I am at over $450!!!!!!!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!


Oh well, I can just sit in it here in the yard and make motor boat noises this summer and pretend that is just as much fun

Just for my small amount that I will need will feel like a ton, and it's not even summer yet!

Maybe rig up some tarps as a sail, and go out on a windy day?

That's a ton of gas though, do a bit more coasting than flying around the lake with that 4.3 and you will be fine (I think).

Filling up a 6-gallon tank for a 10hp kicker will only cost $26...and you can troll around Saginaw Bay all day long on one tank

(just trying to make the best of it, that's my plan for the summer since I don't even have a big motor for the SS right now anyway)

I have a 99 superduty with a 7.3 powerstroke, it was just below 3/4 the other day and I topped it off. That was $65 just for a freaking 1/4 tank of diesel. And then I am looking at putting in saddle tanks on the Islander that are 20 gal each, man what the freak am I doing tinkering with a boat now? Oh well, get her out in the river and let the current do its job. Outgoing tide will take me down river and incoming will take me upriver, save gas that way. At least I am hoping that the 3.0 will be really good on gas, it should be as long as I am not keeping my hand in the throttle (yea right).
