Hi fellas, been a while, quick update for ya...

Yah guys, on the rod holders you were talking about up there ^^^^, they actually come with fat gaskets so no sweat:thumb:

All right, so I've been dragging my feet for two major reasons:

#1 The next step on the Islander is to go back and fill/fare all the holes in the gunwales. I really need some reasonable temps to help my MarineTex cure properly. Well, just the other day I think we hit an all time record low. This winter will just not end!!! So anyway, I do hope to get rolling here soon.

#2 A huge chunk of my time has been devoted to making a career change over the past few weeks (resumes, interviews, negotiations, transitioning....). I have one more small hurdle and I'll be in a new position here shortly. Can I just say I am totally amped for this new opportunity! My new position has a lot more responsibility(which I actually really appreciate), little bit of a bump in salary, colleagues are awesome, commute is cut in half, and about a thousand times less stress involved! Most important, my new position enables me to be a far more effective educator/mentor/facilitator/guide/advisor/advocate/servant. I am really, really excited! It'll be a great challenge for me and I am so looking forward to making this move:joyous:

That's great news Jason, being happy in ones job is very, very important considering how much time we spend at it.
I guess I answered my own question on progress, it still to !@$# cold to work down there. We are back in the grip of winter here with snow and -12to16 temps over night.

Congrats on the job opportunity. We were discussing that at work a couple weeks ago as my boss knows I am always on the look, not that I don't like my work but more for maybe better benefits, pay, conditions, etc. One guy asked me why I do that and I told him only a fool would not get his name and reputation out there for our profession (golf course maintenance). My boss laughs cause he has been trying to hire me for over 5 years and we finally worked out a deal.

Yes, this weather has been killer and never ending. The cold and snow the past couple days have been depressing to say the least. My one fishing buddy told me this morning that there is still 20+ inches of ice in the harbor yet. Most years we have already been out.

Congrats man so even if you only get a $2,000 a year pay raise that is 4 more tinnys you can afford to add to the collection.

Hey guys, thanks a bunch for the well wishes on the new career:joyous: I'm looking forward to diving in:encouragement:

So, over the weekend and early this week, the Jas family had enough of the ice age, so, kinda spur of the moment, we headed south to find the sun. We ended up in Kentucky at the Creation Museum, which was awesome! Stole a couple of 70 degree days, also awesome!

Back in Michigan, unloading the truck in my shorts and flip flops a light snow started to fall:smow::facepalm:

This morning I made a sanding pass over the whole gunwale. So, through the weekend I'd like to try and run the Marine Tex and get everything sanded smooth, prep for paint. I should be able to make that happen.

Sanding is pretty boring stuff so no photos. But, yesterday, here in the middle of Michigan, it was beautiful! It was only low 40's but the sun was out, loved it! And here's what I found!

That must mean something........
