1976 7.5 Mercury trashed lower unit.

Well looks my lower unit bit the dust on my 1976 7.5 HP Mercury serial # 4555696 .
Looking for GOOD lower unit I know that some year range of the 9.9 works can any one
tell me what year range and size of motors will work for me , this is a short shaft motor.

P.S. if some one can point me to a reasonable priced unit I would appreciate it not
a lot of cash to spend on such a old motor . Thanks

The 9.9 will not fit, but a 9.8 will...

The ratio in your housing is 2.0:1, that's the same box as the single cylinder 4.5hp, the 7.5hp and the 9.8hp (model designation '110').

So, the years. From 1976 to the end of production (1986)...
