That is the gasket.
What is coming out of the exhaust housing at the prop is normal.
Dissolved carbon deposits from the exhaust system.
It often helps if doing a complete de-carb using Sea Foam or Engine Tuner in the engine.

OK, so I know now what needs to be done this winter.... gotta get the power head off and change that gasket....

So I figured I would leave the motor mounted to the transom .....

Once I remove the carbs, power pack, fly wheel, and anything else in the way, how much does that sucker weigh?

I maybe able to get the boat into position to get a lift over it, but if not, I think I may have to do it by hand... is that even possible. Any Ideas?

Seems like a huge job, and thats OK... Just want to know what I'm in for...

And if I'm doing all this, should I be doing something else while the power head is off?

and I know I may have to buy or borrow some method of lifting this thing. Hopefully somebody has some great ideas.........

powerhead can be lifted off by hand, pulled my 77 140hp off by myself once disconnected. still had carbs on as well

Sounds good. Can't Wait. Since I'm doing this in the winter, before I tear it down, should I fire it up once more to Winterize it?

I used to fog and antifreeze the motor for the winter.

But I guess since I'm taking it all apart that does not really matter or does it?

I will be doing this in my shed, the powerhead will be inside the shed but still very cold here in New Jersey in the winter, definitely freezes for a month or two here.

For the NExt part of this project, I am going to start another post with more photos, who knows what I'll find under there,
