Hi everyone, I have a 1976 johnson 70 HP thet overheated. Some people responded on a compression check and also said on this site there should be a post about adding a water teltale. I have checked many pages but cant find a post on this subject. Is there a way to search this site for a specific modification.

Can someone provide me the modification steps so I wont cook my engine again due to no water flow.

Thanks everyone

Adding a telltale will help you see that it is pumping water, won't help with restrictions or a bad thermostat as it's before all of that. Adding a temp gauge may be a better solution.

The tell tale on the 3 cyl's helps two fold:

1) You get a tell tale

2) Helps prevent the air lock in the top of the cylinder head which can cause serious engine damage if it occurs...

So IMHO, I would do the tell tale mod and make sure my overtemp horn worked properly...

Do both then- best of both worldx, wasn't aware of the air lock issue, thanks for the info Billy.
