Hold on to your hats......
1976 (10624G) 9.9 Evinrude with a magneto/electronic ignition from a later model, assumed to be, 1977. The motor would run up to half throttle and die. Both stop switch wires have been been cut away from the plug to the power pack. The plugs on the power pack wires to the coils have been replaced. Here are the diagnostic details .... I hope you can follow...
* With sparkplugs removed, and hand held against head, pull rope, no spark.
* Unplug a wire from the power pack to a coil, hold the power pack side of
wire near the head, pull the rope, spark will jump from that wire to the
head.
* Leave the power pack to coil wire unplugged, pull the rope, hold the
sparkplug against the head, touch the power pack to coil wires back
together, spark jumps from the sparkplug to the head.
Does this sound like a problem with the power pack, or the sensor ?
Assuming one wanted to take this motor back to points and condensers of 1976, will the flywheel interchange between the 1976 and 1977 model ?
Any guidance is appreciated.
