1976 85 v4 ?

im looking at a welded 17ft wide john ,with 1976 85 i ahve built several outboards im running a 175 on my fishin boat just wondering what kinda luck any of ya have had with the v4 ,also did they make a bubble back in 1976 in the 85 range

Those were good outboards. One of our most popular models. If it still has the aluminum water pump housing in it, I suggest replacing it with the plastic kit. Especially if you run it in salt water.

I am not sure that there is a bubble back that will fit that motor, I know that the 115 didn't have one and the 135 may have had one, but the 115 and 135 used bigger pistons

look at the BRP site, you can tell by the diagrams. the V4's are all fanastic motors. Bubble back just a little harder to work on.

The 1976 85 hp was a little smaller bore at 3.375". The 135's were all bubble back and you can put the bubble exhaust on the 85 but it won't help. The small bore crossflow 85 had pretty small ports so it's really not going to breathe much better than it does stock.

Same basic design as your 175. If you opened it up you'd not see anything unfamiliar.

thanks yes basic crossflow design , so the mid on the motor will only run the crossflow powerheads ,with flat back .the flat back 135 140 fit
reason being the boat and trailer are worth what im paying ,
motor ran last year? ya know the story ,im going to run comps before i but but will probaly buy with low comps big bateauxs are hard to come by around here with paper, just checking my options ,thanks let yall know how it gos
