1976 9.9 johnson help please...

my 9.9 runs and has good compression but bucks and doesnt want to run when you give her throttle... any suggestions? is this motor as strong as my west bend 18 hp that is a 1961?

Clean the carb (has it sat at all?) or maybe a coil issue... the 9.9 should not be nearly as strong as the 18... I have a Johnson 10 and an 18 and they quite different.

thanks... i was told that the coils in it were out of a 25 hp but the guy told me it ran fine after those were put in...

Sounds more like a fuel delivery issue than a spark problem. You may want to check your spark as you may have a weak coil. Spark must be bright blue and jump a 7/16" gap. I have the exact same engine in my barn and just can't bring myself to sell it. Also have a 25 and the 50 that I am currently using. If your spark is right clean and rebuild the carb.
