My dad has given me our old 15' Bonito bowrider, which I like because it seats six and weighs less than 1500 pounds (boat, motor and trailer). I'm trying to decide whether to stick with the 70hp Evinrude that's on it, or go ahead and get one of the Yamaha 2-stroke 70's before they cease to be available.

I figure the Evinrude has about 2500 hours on it. Any advice? This boat has to have an engine that's under 250 pounds, and I'm afraid the 60hp engines would be a little too wimpy for getting out of the hole on one ski, but they're all that'll be available after year's end in that weight range. Any word on how long those old Evinrudes will go?

you must have a beautiful bowride cause bonito means beautiful but on the masculine side

not real sure but a good way to check is check basics. gear oil and compression. has it ever been overheated? check your spark plugs what color are they?

With good care your Evinrude is good for at least another couple thousand hours, and still a better engine than many current models.

I don't think I ever saw one of those triple loopers wear out.

Hey those are good suggestions. It had the 100-hour service about 30 hours ago, and passed compression then. It's never been overheated so that's good. I'll take a look at the spark plugs. Thanks for the suggestions.
