1976 evinrude 85hp gearbox oil?

Hi! just want to no what sort of gearbox oil should use to replenish my evinrude, i have access to a variety of aviation gearbox oils for helicopters, mineral and synthetic, im picking that because we all enjoy boating and fishing the guys who sell outboard gearbox oils charge an arm and a leg for it! cheers!!!

85w90 gear oil its cheap and far more appropriate for the marine environment the stuff your talking about is made for cold at altitude and being a certified a and p i know the stuff youre about to use is not thick enough for what your about to do with it -dont do it man that is unless you WANT to fry your lower unit gears

Marine lower unit oil is special. It may be the same viscosity as gear oil for cars, but you need a marine grade. The marine oil is a Hypoid oil, and will mix with a little water and still maintain some lubricating properties. Regular car oil won't. Stick with a marine gear oil.
