1976 Evunrude 55 Hp ????

I have a 76 Evinrude 55 Hp and when i take off the motor sounds good but bogs out after a second or 2. it doesnt die just has no power. full throttle it will only go about 5 miles an hour. i checked for spark and they both seem good. i have new gas??? im stumped any help would be appreciated. i had it out on the lake yesterday and i must have flooded it out it died on me i had to row back in. Anyone have any ideas????

Is this boat and outboard new to you? Has it ever run properly since you owned it?

If the answers to those questions are Yes and No, then it's time to start running the basic diagnostics on your outboard. Up in the Top Secret thread are several links to posts explaining how to check your outboard out. Could be low compression on one cylinder. Could be ignition problems. Could be a dirty carb that needs a thorough going through.

Check out those threads, run the tests, and get back to us with the results.

Bought boat last year took it out once everything worked great. I winterized it and put it away. Now this year it starts good but when i give it throttle it seems to take off right away but the a second or two later it bogs down. Just got done doing a compression check each cylinder is 145 seems fine to me but i don't know any specs on this motor. I started it on one of the cylinders then tried the other and it would fire but die right away?? So now i'm thinking its the coil on that cylinder or the carb?? I'm not sure though??? I know motors well just not a whole lot of experience with boat motors.
