This will be the last thread started on this boat, I bought this boat and finally got it home today. Ive had alot of time to look it over and have plenty of questions on were to start. This will be a major project I know, I will be asking many questions and I appreciate all answers.

boat 3.jpg

Boat 8.jpg

The inside is pretty trashed up, I noticed the floor was made of fiberglass and was wondering how i should go about replacing the floor?

boat 7.jpg

Also i took this picture, it says use "leaded" fuel only.... im like wtf  everything is UN leaded now Is this a major problem?

Boat 9.jpg

Were can i find the serial number at so i can identify the year of this boat?

On a good note i checked the oil in the engine and it looked nice and clean, i dont know much of its past but im hoping the engine is in good shape since if this project fails i can probaly get my $ back on the engine alone. Its a Mercruiser 120hp. 4 cyl, i need to do some more research on it.

If you guys want more pictures just tell me what ones and ill snap them right away :)

Any help were to start would be great thanks!:D

Re: Glastron Trihull Project

cool boat.....love the old glastrons......

the serial number will be on the aft inside area it will be a stamped plate, usually attached to the top cap,on the inside.

the floor is not made of fibreglass......but rather plywood with fibreglass over it..... you can use a circ saw to cut it out.

there are lots of great examples of the glastron trihulls restoration process....

read the compleated projects forum.....or ask in the thread called trihull club!

Ripped out th carpet tonight, lots of cracks and splits in the floor, "oops" said use a circ saw to cut it out, what should i watch out for when doing this so i dont damage something underneath.

And is there a way to take off the fiberglass front or is it like molded to the frame?

Re: Glastron Trihull Project

So your gonna make it a Center console? other than that it seems ambitious turn a tri-hull into a bass boat might work out. other than that your other pics from the floor did not show try and fix them. But suggestions on cutting the floor set the saw so its just deep enough to cut thru most of the wood then rip it out by hand thats what i did.

heres all the pics of the boat i have so far, i took them with my camera phone (droid bionic which is supposed to be a 8 mp which im starting to call bullsh** on lol ) the idea of the center console, idk i just want something differnt than a typical looking "cruising boat" something more practical and more spacey? if that makes any sense lol im very far from that stage anyways, i took off the rubrail today and took the screws out and trying to find out were the stupid top half is still connected found some fiberglass strips connected to the floorboard need a saws all cuz it such a tight space. Learning alot from everyone here at Iboats THANKS EVERYONE!!!

If the engine and drive are going to need some major work, than I would say this is not a worthwhile project, otherwise, go for it. It will probably be a full blow refit though.

Re: 1976 Glastron trihull t-179

Thanks ezmobee for merging them, and im still debating on what to do, so far all ive spent on this boat is $40 (plus the $250 to purchase it :p) and that was just for some parts im ALWAYS going to have so im not counting that. I found a maintance manual for the motor so i can order that for 19.95 and start trouble shooting or just tear it apart and rebuild it back toghether, if nothing else ill get to see the inside and learn alot by just tearing stuff apart. When i checked the oil in it the oil look realitvly new, had a nice clear tint to it wasnt milky in any way, so i know theres no water in the oil :D and pulling the dipstick dosnt tell me much but its a little bit of a good sign.

Ive decided if worse comes to worse im going to pull the motor and everything rebuild the transform and just keep it as my "pond boat" strip everything out of there so its nice and light and just have a trolling motor on it. maybe a generator were the engine sits so i can always have a charged battery and run the generator off the gas tank in the front? only turn it on when my battery is gettin low.

Thanks oops for all the help, ive been reading alot of you older posts to helping me a ton!

Re: 1976 Glastron trihull t-179

Well its sounds like a good idea but we will have to see the how it would be to do the center console I.E running all of the stering and electrcal under the deck. which could work or not work depending on how hi you let any water get into the boat b4 you turn your billige on so its up to you. and the motor part if you do a compersion test (do that b4 bying anything els) and the compresion is ok it should be a rather cheap and easy fix if you do like a i said by looking up the parts under the nova it works real easy. (just got my new distributor and it fits like a charm now all i need is the stupid plug wires:( )

Awesome thanks for the advice, Idk I might try and Jimmy rig the center consul idea, couldn't I go under the deck and build a box around it and fiberglass around it? I'll also wrap the electrical wires real good and seal everything up? I'll try and draw a picture what I'm thinking about later today.

Re: 1976 Glastron trihull t-179

Having trouble today trying to remove the top half of the boat. The rub rail is off and all screws are out, and ive cut out were it appears to be attached with fiberglass. idk if its attached somehow internally or something? if so can i just pick up on it real hard and it will rip free? I have a crane were i work that i could use to pick it up. i just dont want to damage the lowerhull or anything.

Re: 1976 Glastron trihull t-179

Before popping that cap, did you make a supporting cradle to keep the hull in the shape it is now? A properly supported hull is needed to ensure you are able to get the cap back on without any headache.
