Thanks cowboyup4, i got the lower unit off today, that way it will save me some room when i back it into my garage. As soon as i get that top cap off, this project i think will be alot easier.

Got the cap off today and set down pulled it into my garage and started cutting into the floor a bit. Some of the foam still looks good, while other parts are completely gone. the stringers (which by my guess are the supports going the length of the boat?) are SOLID! idk if i even want to mess with them cuz they look like they were build into the boat and not worth the risk considering the shape there still in. my question is why theres just some "pieces" of foam under the floor? i would have thought the whole thing would have been foam. dosnt seem like that little bit of foam would make that much of a differnce, but then again maybe im wrong. this is the reason i am part of Iboats to learn from people who have done this before:)

Heres a picture of parts of the floor cut out

I was looking at that pic you posted in #29 long enough that I got that look you see when a dog hears a really strange noise. I'm like, "what the eff is that in there?" :p Glad I found your thread again, I was still looking for work on your last thread.

Drill a few holes into the stringers. By the pictures they look decent and dry but just to make sure I would do a few test holes. look for good shavings not dark and damp.

Don't hold me with my suggestion to 100 percent but when i read different restorations this question will occasionally pop up and the answer is drill. I would drill bow, stern, and mid portion of the boat. More the likeyl i would think the worse of the rot if it is there is in the rear..

Hey didnt read all the responses but I have a 72' v 179 and the plate with the serial on mine is underneath the steering console. Your going to have to lay on your back and look up on the fiberglass on the inside of the boat frame. should be there if its the same as mine.
there are also numbers right in the very back of your boat right by the water line to the right of the motor (on mine anyway). should see them imprinted.
least you have your flame arrestor on the motor. those were a ***** to track down for me.

Thanks for the help, I found the serial number and is a 76 t-179 starflight. I hope to start tearing into the motor next week sometime.
