Re: 1976 Johnson 115

Well, guys, I spent a weekend messing with the boat and motor and noticed that it was printed on a tag near on the intake that originally the motor took champion plug:L774, if I recall correctly. If I put on the extra thick gaskets, what is generaly an accepted compression for a 1976 115 johnson motor.(my cold compression was 3 125's and 1 120 for 4 cylinders). When I started the motor this weekend I noticed that the choke plate do open up a bit when I crank over the motor(electric choke solinoide sp? has a spring on it)which is said to not be good(reduces the vaccume to take fuel out of the fuel bowl). Hope I'm barking up the right tree on that. All help Is totally apreciated. PDS.

The compression readings are as good as you can get.

Thank's, solittle, But my latest ? is is it true that the choke Plates should be totally closed when starting the Motor? Both the electric choke and the manual choke have springs on them, alowing the chokes to open a little bit when cranking the motor? That be my ? to you guys, Thanks!! PDS.
