1976 johnson 6 horse has spark for 3 pulls

Bought the motor about a week ago it had no spark to begin with replaced coils tonight and set points. I used a spark tester and on the first three pulls it had spark now it has nothing. Any help will be appreciated thanks

Re-check/replace the points they could have slipped

In addition, check the wire attachment at the coil. It has to be securely twisted in (spike has to contact the core of the wire).

Don't assume the points are clean (even new ones). They are the chief culprit for a no-spark condition. Degrease them and polish each contact shiny bright.

If boat points are anything like the points used in cars many years ago, i would guess they have slipped together
