Welcome to the Iboat forums. No telltale hole until 77, that's why you won't see it pumping water. There are 2 exhaust ports at the top, back of the lower unit/exhaust leg, they will spray mist from them when the pump is working.
There should be a couple of hex nuts and screws that connect the shift rod, right where the lower unit meets the mid-section. Only one nut/screw needed to be dissassembled to drop the lower unit and therefore only one nut/screw will most likely need to be tightened to connect it back up. The lower unit will need to be pushed up into the motor until it is about 1 inch away so that the two pieces of the shift rod come together for the screw to attach them.
Put handle in reverse and get the drive shaft and water tubes aligned, then shift to forward and guide the shift shaft into the coupler. Visually check that the notch in the shaft is aligned w/hole in coupler, and add bolt.
If you don't already have them you will need parts 35 through 38 to make it work. I think it is essential if you like to slow troll. The knob works as a cruise control and you can go full throttle to move to a different spot and then right back to the setting/speed you have dialed in on the idle speed knob. Great thing. Rick.
That's if everything lines up perfectly, as the components wear this idle knob becomes useless and they break. Mine is on my motor but the motor will shut off when it idle down that low.
