1976 marquis 16ft boat locked up

Ijust got this boat.not is sure about these out drives and Not really sure what it is.believe it's a omc 120 motor with stringer drive.well starter clicking and it's not the ciliniod.i put some transmision fluid in each cylinder to see if it might be just siezed and free it's self.

My question.is there anyway to try turn motor backwards.or turn at all? Only way I see is Tak front mount out to spin crank.

Can the outdrive cause it not to turn?

And anyone think these are good outdrives.

What about taking starter off?

Engine really clean like it's been rebuilt.trailer on boat looks new.outdrive looks little ruff. I think numbers on outdrive was 54881.

I really want to fix up because inboard I like.

Welcome aboard:

You've got an electric shift Stringer ... about as outdated as outdated gets. Ask me how I know

Is it a good drive? Yes, actually it is pretty good. I really like mine. Is it worth putting tons of energy and a bunch of money into fixing? Nope. It's too outdated, some parts too hard to find and you can't convert (remotely easily) to another drive system.

Remove your drive from the boat, and see if you can get the engine to run.

If you remove the sterndrive, check the upper gear case. It should turn freely but not necessarily easily - you may need a tool to help you rotate it, but it should rotate. If that's spinning properly, the gear cases shouldn't be locking you up (doesn't mean they're working right, just means they're likely not locking you up).

Yes and No.

Take the drive off and see if it will crank.

So is motor a 2.5l same as gm? Is motor reverse drive?

yes same as Chev 2.5L 153 cu in Chevrolet used from approx. 1962 to 1969. Standard LH rotation, same as car.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... It's Not the same 2.5l motor GM put in cars, 'n trucks from the '70s, through the '00s,...

That is the Iron Duke, the GM corporate, Pontiac 2.5l,.... a Very different motor,...

Guess what motor good so far.the battery was bad that I had.now have another question.theres no ignition but wires are there.How could I hook up to test without buying a ignition.before in invest want to make sure everything good.

Also is ebay a good place to buy water impeller kit? What other stuff should I check on and maitnance? Never got a boat for 80 bucks before so excited to get running.guy already got new plugs for me.how about firing order?

outboardbooks.com has the factory manual for your engine and drive with all the tune-up specs and service info. Probably a good investment to help you get identify where all the service points are for grease and oils before you go too far.

My coil is bad.what liter motor is 990223a1.i was seeing if auto zone had a coil.or same coil that's not marine.

Ok here is what's going on.its getting 12 volts to coil, and getting 12 volts to points.12volts coming out coil to distribitor, but coil doesn't spark off block.dhouldnt the coil wire spark off a ground?

Ok I'm new to points.maybe I just need new points.i would like to get running and make sure block not cracked or outdrive not bad, before spending a lot cash, because this boat problem ain't worth more than 800.i don't care though long as it floats and gets the job done.bildge, blower, and gages all working so far.i really believe this thing been serviced in the last 5 years.just interior shot, but solid as heck.

Yeah there firing, I think block cracked.oil kinda gray looking.what motor will bolt right up to this? I could probly get car motor cheap like 140, but don't know what sizes will bolt up, and if flywheel will interchange.

I don't have a compression tester, but maybe that's the probkem.

Really I didn't know they loaned them.well found out I'll be out of luck finding that motor from salvage.looks like it has to be 1970 or before gm motor.are these parts worth anything, because I would mind taking motor and drive out and getting rid of boat.just can't figure how to get rid of it without chainsaw in it in little pieces.you guys got any ideas on that besides sinking it? I LIVE IN KY

This thing got a two jet rochchester carb on it.Is that what it came out with?
