I have a 1976 thunderbolt merc 1150, runs like a top till the other day. the throttle got very stiff then PING lost my reverse and flooded the engine. Turns out the guide bracket that holds the cables (part number 52732) broke and now the cables can not move properly. I will be installing a new part but i need to see how the cables bolt back up properly.
2 cables, 1 wing nut looking washer and 3 threaded bolts including the long arm?
Is there a walk through or diagram online? Or anyone know the order they bolt back up?
Thanks from alberta

Ive been through all the searches i could and found the parts list but still cannot find a diagram to show how to correctly install the cables, throttle, shift ect and how long i should thread the two barrels so they sit properly and shift from forward to revers without binding again.
Also what kind of grease should be used on the guide rails?

Also before it broke, It would shift fine into forward and into nuetral but it would shift hard into reverse. when i move the shifter arm without the cables attached it does shift both ways but in reverse the bolt hookup goes right to the very back of the guide? Is this normal? should it freely shift into reverse or is there always tention?
I believe i have this somewhat figured out as far as hooking it up but i believe im missing a few parts.
The throttle cable attaches to the long arm with the swivel and a bolt on the bottom? and the shift cable attaches to the shift arm lower in the guide? If you have the same setup if you could post a pick of it all hooked up it would clear this right up for me.
Thanks

From my memory, you have a shift shaft rod that comes up thru the bottom of the bracket, it should have a plastic guide that sits on it, it comes thru the bracket, then another guide sandwiches it from the top, this keeps it riding in the center, then you should have wing nut type washer, then a nut, the wing nut washer will rotate, and the tip of it holds the cable end in place.
As far a reverse, it sounds like you did not have the motor all the way down, and the reverse cam was keeping you from shifting, I hope you did not force it, and bend your shift shaft, very common mistake on these old motors.

Good Luck,

so if i am reading you right there is a plastic guide that goes below the guide channel and the wing nut slides above to sandwitch them?
What kind of grease do you figure is used to keep it sliding?
