Can anyone help? I need to know how best to split the drive on the 76 OMC so I can replace the plywood that reinforces the aluminum transom, Looks like I have to move the engine forward a few inches after removing part of the out drive and hope not to destroy the boot. Thanks for any help or possible lead to breakdown view on the net
THANKS FOR ANY INFO AND TIME JASON AND JERRY

That's the elec shift stringer I'm assuming? If so, take the boot ring off first pull down a pry loose with puttyknife being careful not to tear the boot. If your boot is in good enough condition, you can roll it back to expose the large hoseclamp that holes it on to the intermediate housing and remove hoseclamp. Pull the boot toward the outdrive. Once it comes off the lockkring you can grease it and pull down on the OD to get it out of the way. Check and see if this give you room to do what you want. If it doesn't. Remove OD and you can see that the intermediate housing comes off easy W/o removing the engine. You should have plenty of room then. Be sure to have a couple of nut crackers on hand.
Good Luck

Clarification; When you pull off the boot, it exposes the entire hole in your transom and you will see that nothing is touching your transom. You will be able to surmise what steps you need to take from there. The boot is easy to reinstall for most people. Your drive system literally floats through the hole in your transom.
