1976 Seaswirl Lancer

So I'm gonna start a restore on my boat. 1976 Seaswirl Lancer with OMC 175 i/o. Taking it step by step but my main concern right now is I have two soft spots on the deck. One right under my bow since its a closed bow more so under dash area. Then the next one located near stern on starboard side next to inboard motor in front of rear seat. My questions are do I remove the cap and begin a full rehaul or should I start by taking out seats sidewells and transom well then remove carpet completly. Then once I do this start to remove old ply wood? I guess once I remove old ply wood I could better evaluate the entire deck and stringers to decide if I need a full resto. I just dont know if I should pull cap just yet or remove the inboard. One step at a time perhaps until I discover more. Can the deck be fully removed without removing cap and inboard? Unless other repairs pop up?

Welcome to iBoats!
I'd recommend cutting the deck out and core sampling the stringers and the transom. That should tell the story. Read, read, and read some more here on the "Boat University". You will get an Education on boat restoration and will be able to handle what ever the boat throws at you with the help of evryone here on the forum.

Thanks woodonglass, and when I attempt this believe me pictures will be all up and I will be asking a lot of advice. Speaking of reading and reading that is all I ever do is read each others resto projects to educate myself hopefully.

So a removal of the deck doesn't alwsys mean the cap has to come off? When is it necessay for the cap to be removed?
