As evidenced by the posted pictures the remote cable assembly for my 70 hp motor is dry rotted and showing its age. The obsolete part number is 0385698 and I am having trouble locating a replacement. I've found a CDI replacement for the motor electrical harness. Does anyone know of any replacement parts for the cable assembly that runs from the remote to the motor?

Pretty much any of the modular "Red Plug" style wiring harnesses will work for you. Most marinas have several hanging from their rafters, still in their control boxes... They used them well into the 1990s. Can find them on eBay, too.

Thanks Chinewalker,

I guess I'll go rummage "saling" at the local marinas. Now that I know its not year specific it should be easy to find. Will Evinrude cable assemblies work also?

I have a 1974 SS. You may find that the "rubber" cable sheathing from the motor across the splashwell is rotted and falling apart. Even with the new assembly. I bought a roll of this on eBay and got a size large enough that when expanded it will slide over the Red Plug. Then just zip tie each end. Looks good to me and similar to what you see in the showrooms.

Listed as "Fire Rated Braided Expandable Wire Sleeving 1.25" 10ft" for about $12.

Yes, the Evinrude controls (Power Pilot) from that era would work, too.

Tip for marina hopping: If you find a good candidate marina, show up around coffee time with a box of good donuts. Also, being a holiday weekend, choose your moment. They're going to be busy. Avoid the clean-cut kid behind the counter. He won't have a clue what you need. Try to find the guy with grease under his nails, a stained work shirt, and a name embroidered on the lapel - usually something like Butch, Hank, or Skeeter. :encouragement:
