yep I acually went out and stood and looked at the ol Johnson... turned and started to walk away and said hell wheres the battery and hooked it up and got the thing to start.... sound a little rough but it started.. so now going to get some new carb kits and a water pump kit..... I want to get the ol johnson working first.. so when I star working on the interior and topside it will be ready for splashdown.....

I agree with EZ I'd fill all the orange holes....

Well I actually did some meaningful work other than sit, stare and make a to-do list and a to-get list for a few hrs.... like I have the past few days :D. Got the first epoxy coat on one side (gratitious epoxy pic):

I also was thinking how peeerdy the aluminum looks... So I stripped paint off the topsides and the splashwell... I wanna have the topsides clean and prepped when I paint it:

Im also thinking since the bare aluminum looks so nice... ...It should be a rite-of-passage to allow some gleaming aluminum to shine thru... instead of covering it all with paint. I have decided to mask off the rear splashwell section and leave the support beam to shine proudly :D. Ill add that pic of my idea tomorrow.....

I almost got physically Ill... when I saw a 1" crack down from the top of the kneebrace on the starboard side.. How was this unnoticed until today... ammmmm should I worry about this..... Im getting queasy again :(:

jayb, nice project you have going, love the ss.

Bare aluminum - you can cook breakfast on that on a sunny day - Eggs over easy and crisp bacon for me please.

Sorry to see the split, but glad you found it before it's too late.

Great job do far. I'm hoping mine comes along as well as yours, I might have yo steal your idea on how to utilize the original bench seats. :)

jayb - some else had a fracture like that in a kneebrace. I think (I smell it too) they stop drilled it and sistered an aluminum angle piece in the tie it all back together. I don't remember who posted that up. But that should work. I think when a transom rots the surrounding aluminum takes a beating. I saw when you pulled the transom, was it mulchy?

Check my thread Jay, both my stringer/brace where it attaches to the transom had cracks. I had a couple pieces of aluminum bent up and then added them in. I have pics in my thread. Mine is a little different but you should be able to come up with something.

Thanks also L2... I have an idea on how to reuse the seats for the rear... just need to put an idea into action :D.

It was total muck GA :( I had to literally shop-vac 1/2 the floor out....lol.


Im gonna reread your thread DJ.... and gonna read the one you posted also EZ after I get Epoxy on the underside of some of my flooring this mornin' :)

Ya know dj... I could do/try that idea .... bending some heavy gauge alum and rivet and screw to the kneewall and transom, great idea. Ive been working on other boat stuff... so I havent even read yours thread and the one EZ mentioned... I will later for sure.

Your floors looked even worse then mine.. wow ...looks like spilled chili :D :p

Your kneebrace is a minor prob Jayb. With the new transom and the fixed brace - You are gonna be just fine!

Nothing much to report.... Fig I would update as not to upset the starmada... I have been working 2nd coat of epoxy on the floors. You know how the epoxy goes 1 coat wait 24 hrs.... add another wait...etc..etc. :p Tomorrow I will get the bilge fig out and get my noodles in and fit the floor... YEEHAW. I realized that no local box stores carry 3/16" rivets in a 3/4" length :facepalm:. Great time to fig that one out. Ill add a few pics and update tomorrow :D From reading some restos... seems like some PL was added to the top of the rib just prior to laying the floor?!

O and I did decide to get the original style decals instead of the vintage:

Do you have a Fastenal near you? Might be able to find rivets there. Or maybe a Grainger? I put adhesive on my stringers and rib ends prior to fastening down the deck. Probably not necessary but I thought what the heck. I like that vintage of decals.

Ya.. Im gonna go to fastenal today. How do you sink the rivet heads or just leave them exposed... and does the vinyl go right over them? I can as an alternative get stainless screws and countersink the heads.... not sure which troute to take. I took your advice and went period specific EZ. I think its a better choice also :D

I didn't use rivets so I'm no help there. I used regular deck screws from Home Depot. Counter-sunk them a bit and then coated them all with epoxy. I put my 2nd coat of epoxy on the deck board tops after they were installed in the boat.
