How long did the build take?

I started the build in September and had the boat ready to splash in April so 7.5 months, many hours.

What was your motivation to start the build?

My motivation is the love of doing it, to see these great old tin boats used and abused for so many years then having the opportunity to bring them back to almost new condition, is almost a passion.

How many builds have you completed?

My first build was 17' Marlin glasser, then I found Starcraft aluminums, the Holiday was my fifth rebuild of the tin kind. After working with Marlin, I know how much work is involved to get a glasser back to shape, but will not attempt one again, turns out I am very allergic to resin.

Was this your favourite build?

Favorite part of the build, of any build, I guess is having total creative control of how to lay-out the interior, the type of finishing materials that can be used. The great thing about an aluminum boat is there is no structural cap that has the interior design built into it that determines how the boat will be layed out.

What was the easiest part?

Getting started, is always the easiest part, following through to the finish takes all the time dedication and money.

What was the hardest part?

The hardest part of this build was definitely, stripping the paint, the top was not bad but the sides and bottom of the hull had many coats of paint with a layer of lake crud between them.

What finishing products did you use? (gel coat, carpet, seats, etc.)

There are many products used in the completion of these projects some of the most common and most used, Gluvit to seal the rivets and seams, Dow-corning sheet foam for flotation, Rustoleum Professional line of paints for the color and prep, Nautolex floor vinyl, Sonus and Caswell brand polishing systems for the shine on the hull, Enduratex Windsong vinyl for the upholstery, (love that stuff) Faria gauges, Uflex steering, lots of Seirra parts for the motor, and Tempress seats.

Where was the first splash? (lake, ocean, etc.)

The first splash was in a little tiny irrigation reservoir close to home, that barely had the ice off of it.

What was your best reaction?

Most common reaction is WOW, but the best of any was, the Naked Lady, 16SS I won the SOTY for in 2012, we were sitting fishing in her when a big very expensive Lund tournament boat trolled past and the owner yelled over we used to have a StarCraft like that, when did they start making them again?
