Hi all
New here and you folks have a great thing going here. I picked up a boat, trailer and the above engine a few weeks back for fishing. My first ever boat and all three looked in fantastic shape. I would say the motor has only been used very occassionally (model 21758591-1).
The motor worked briefly but never well and always on half to full choke. The plug also appeared to be foulling up. There wasn't much power and in my youth I could have swam faster.
Then the throttle grip broke a gear in the motor. Anyway, took advice on this site and Sears had the parts in stock (I am amazed), so I can fix the throttle grip. But I want a manual and carb kit so here are my questions:

1) Should the manual be Sears, Tecumseh or Eska? Some Ebay sites are telling me I need an Eska manual, yet they have Ted Williams manuals, just the model number is wrong?
2) The carb seems to be flooding out. Full rebuild needed or is there a float trick?
3) What is the proper mixture for this motor and what oil? The sticker on top says 1/4 pint to a gallon, but I am seeing different advice given here.

Keep up the great posting and thanks in advance for your advice

Contact www.certifiedpartscorp.com. Call the phone number. I think they have service manuals for all of those. They also have most parts on hand.

Sounds like the first thing you need is a carburetor kit and a good cleaning.

Follow the sticker for fuel:eek:il ratio.

Finally, go to www.searspartsdirect.com and plug in your model number. That will take you to exploded parts diagrams. Sears also has some parts for that engine available.

Bottom line is that your outboard is an air-cooled single cylinder two-stroke. It'll be noisy, will vibrate like crazy, and every Johnson or Evinrude 6hp outboard will leave it in their wakes.

Don't spend too much on it.
