Hi Guys:

I've developed a leak in my 1976 tilt trim pump for my MCM 165 inline 6 engine and leg. I know I can buy the gasket set to fix the leak in the pump but my question is:

Can I buy a complete new pump setup and bolt it right up rather than repair the old one?

Many Thanks:

Re: 1976 tilt trim pump

a new one could leak too if ya got bad hoses or don't get them sealed when ya install them. i think go look for the leak.

mine was leaking last year. took me half the season to find it. in my case it was the o ring seals on the bottom of the manifold that the hoses screw into. pocket change for new o rings and a little labor and i was hip.

where's yours leaking at?

Ayuh,... You can replace it with the newer plastic tanked 1....
You'll also have to change the return hoses, 'n loose the reverse lock contraption...

Hi Guys:

Thanks for the quick replies. Mine is leaking from the same place as yours Ziggy and all the hoses and rams are fine. I guess I'll do the same as you did and get the o rings.

here was my leak..

camera is looking up at the bottom of the trim pump assy. looking at the manifold where the up and down hoses connect to.

i got away with just pulling them 4 bolts and dropping the manifold down out of the way (didn't even disconnect the trim lines though i did empty the resevoir). this exposed 4 small o rings. the trick is to be able to keep the o rings on the bottom of the trim pump, valve assy. i used some waterproof grease to hold them in place. then put the manifold back in place. on mine, the trim pump isn't to accessible so it's almost impossible to see if yer succeeding or not. i figured if i failed, like in dropping an o ring and not knowing it. i'd have a major leak then and would have to try again. i was successful on my first try..

Plus 1. Easy fix. You can get o-rings at any local hardware store.
