I have a 1977 115 Johnson on a Glastron CVX16 with rotary steering. With the cable disconnected at the motor, the motor moves freely from stop to stop. With the cable connected, it turns full to port and the cable fully retracts. When I turn to starboard, I only get a partial turning radius. At full hard to starboard with the steering wheel, I then disconnect the cable from the motor and can move the motor to its stop. There is about 3" distance from the farthest that the cable will go to the stop position with the cable disconnected. The cable has a transom clamp mount connection. It looks like the tilt tube was not used on this boat. If I relocate the transom mount it looks like I can get some more turning radius to starboard but would lose the same to port. there is about 3" distance from the transom mount to the splashwell. Is there any way to make this work or do I just need to buy a tilt tube setup?
