You did get the bolt under the zinc anode, right?

Is it the upper shift rod that won't seperate from the lower shift rod, or what?

When I took the lower off my 86 90hp I had to help it off carefully with a crow bar covered with a rag to not damage anything. Just make damn sure you have all the bolts out before trying that!

Jeff,, i don't think you wanna pull those shafts out, if do you will need to pull the prop shaft out to do that and remove bearing and gears... if you wanna replace the water pump empeller and reseal shafts should be able to do without removing the shafts . short one is shift shaft,, other one is drive shaft

good luck
do it slow and drink ice water

(the easy way to remove everything is with a big sledge hammer) just kidding

TWOBADFISH, sounds like you are trying to pull the prop shaft from the lower unit housing, correct?

The large washer as you described is actually a large nut that holds the entire bearing carrier/prop shaft inside the housing. The nut is locked with a tabbed locking washer. You must locate the tab that is bent over into one of the notches of the nut and straighten it out. Now you must unscrew the nut turning it CCW. There is a special tool to do this and it will not come out easily. You can be creative and try different approaches to unscrew it but you may end up drilling it out and replacing it with a new one.

Once you have the nut off, the whole inner bearing carrier and prop shaft "simply" pulls out. Again, it will not come out easily and you have to be creative in your approaches.

There are several good posts in this forum detailing this project. Do a search and spend some time reading. You will want to invest in a proper manual before attempting repair or rework of the lower unit.

Guys. Thank you very very much.

Both shafts turn seem to turn nicely so I will take your advise and not go there.. I am receiving the manual fri. So I will work on the impeller and so on. Your advice has been greatly appreciated.. And I will invest in a sledgehammer soon ..lol

I will be in touch with lots more advice needed, And appreciated.. Sense I am trying to rebuild this 1977 18ft crestliner (fishing machine) 1977 115 murc with my son. He has just returned for Iraq, And this is are journey together..

Talk to you soon I hope.
