Sorry to hear that, mine just popped off. Hope you don't break to much of the fiberglass. Its always easy to say I go back and fix it. Just seems to take a lot longer to get the boat in the water. In the end it will bea big help getting the transom out and installing a new one.

Re: 1977 16' Baja

hey, i just got all of the wood out, now im left with some more of that grout-like stuff on the inside of the fiberglass. i started sanding it down with the disk sander. about half of it came out great, but in some small areas on the half that i havent done yet the grout broke off with the wood and the fibers are exposed. am i doing the right thing?

Well hello fellow boater, hope everyone had a good winter?

Im back to work on the Baja thanks to the grest spring we are having. Started priming the hull with interlux 404. It went ok, not what I thought it would be like. Had a lot of trouble getting smooth, I just hope when it drys tomorrow it looks a little better. Its kind of like painting your boat with elmers glue, once you brush it on it starts to set up. If you forget where you started and brush over an area that is already drying your screwed. I hope the perfection goes on better. I added some pictures of the primer. Any feedback would be great.
Now that's pretty! How much paint did it take to cover the hull?

Yeah its turning out good so far. Your looking at 2 coats of white primer and 2 coats of Perfection red. I putting the third coat on tonight which will use up the 2 quarts. Came out good, just need to be careful about adding thinner to the paint. First time I thinned it out and it didnt cover very good and left me some runs. The second coat with no thinner came out alot better.

There was some kind of compound they used make up the difference between the inner wood transom and the splash well when they married the uppe and lower together. Does anyone know what it is? Dont think it was resin because it came apart easy. Thinking it might be some kind of bondo with fiberglass in it.
