Re: 1977 175 mercury stator problem
I don't have exact temperatures when running my engine, because my temp guage doesn't have actual numbers on it....

But I can tell you this. When running my engine at idle is just spurts water out of pee hole. This happens at the lake and on the muffs. when I get the motor warm and the stats open it really pee's hard.
At WOT my engine runs pretty warm, if not HOT... Because my temp guage is almost pegged on the H, (highest mark on guage). When I throttle down it immediately drops to the lower half of the guage...I'm not overheating it however, because the alarm never goes off (and I know it works).

My temp. sensor is measuring metal at the head, it does not measure water temp. Your sensor could be different than mine, which would explain your readings (assuming it is working properly)

When was the last time your impeller/water pump was serviced? If you don't know, I'd get it done just for assurance. I would expect some water out of pee-hole, even at idle. Also replace the thermostats.

But if you're not overheating, You're probably ok!
