Hello I bought a frozen 1977 evinrude 35hp and replaced the frozen power head with a used power head from a 1981 Johnson 35hp m/n J35rcig I transfer starter bracket and starter, magneto hooked everything up. and turned the key and the engine cranked good but no spark. so far I have trouble shot the stator and both the charge coil and the sensor coil have proper ohm reading.(440 for the charge coil and 37.8 for the sensor coil. The coils after the power pack both primary and secondary winding check good. In my thinking that left only the power pack. with out the special tester mentioned in the manual I cannot test it. How can this be checked? Can I take the power pack into the local dealer to be checked? I'm on my second ebay power pack and exasperated as heck. Any suggestions you guys have are very much appreciated. Sorry for the long post......Robert

If you go to the CDI website and look up your engine they will have a troubleshooting guide you can use to test your engine.

You'd have to take the whole motor into the dlr for him to check it properly. Unless you have the proper meters.
