In a previous post by TX Duck Guy, he mentioned the overheat alarm on his '63 40 hp Evinrude. I have a '77 35 hp Evinrude and I can find no mention of an overheat alarm in the parts manual nor the OMC Service Manual. Does this engine not have one? If not, can one be added? Years ago, I had a '57 35hp Johnson - no side telltale nor overheat alarm. As a result, I got my first experience at rebuilding outboards.

There should be a temperature sensor that connects to the light brown wire in the wire harness. It will trip the same horn in the controls box as the low oil warning does.

Look for the sensor wire coming out somewhere on or near the head.

Mark

There were no overheat or low oil alarms on the 77 35 HPS, apart from lots of steam, burned smell and seizure. I think the 63 40HP originally had same equipment. :D They didnt come out with temperature sensors before 84 as far as I remember.

That's what it seemed like from examining the manuals. Can an overheat sensor be add anyway?
