77 is way back there but let's try. Figure out which is which on both the cable and the engine. Set the engine shifter to N and set the remote to N. Install the center part of the shifter cable onto the pin on the engine leaving the barrel loose temporarily, or if you can't do that, hold the cable such that the end is over the shifter pin. Look at the position of the barrel. If not aligned with the engine slot, roll it up or down the threads till it will line up and push it all together.
Same on the throttle but set the throttle lever to min on the engine and remote (on single lever remote, just put it in the N position) and engine all the way against the idle position stop. Install the cables in the same manner. After installing the throttle cable, remove the sound box cover over the carb venturis if you have one and look directly into the carb throat. Put the shifter in F gear and advance as far as it will go with reasonable pressure. Look at the butterflies in the carbs. Should be parallel with the venturi allowing maximum air to pass. If so, fine you're done. If not, tweak your engine internal linkage to line up both carb butterflies to track identically, or if they do, you may need to "tune" the barrel up or down the cable to get them open when you are in the WOT position.
That should be all there is to it.
