1977 6 hp evinrude just shutoff

today i was just going along slowly and the engine just shuts off and it ran for about 20-30 mins before this. it isnt seaized

Well if the key shears you will still have spark.-------I am not there to do some simple checks for you.------Is there fuel in your tank ?----Did the hose connecter fall off ?-----Water in the fuel ?-----Any fuel in the carburetor ?-----Compression checked ?-----Failed head gasket ?

How to i Check if the key is sheared and I have tried started fluid so that takes out water and it is a fresh tanks

i was pulling on it some and it backfired so most likely timing/sheared key

To get at the key, pull the flywheel. That is if you can't see anything after you remove the flywheel nut.
