To get right to the heart of it, is there an idle speed stop screw on my motor? The only way I've found to adjust idle speed is by the length of the throttle cable. The stop screw on the side linkage doesn't come anywhere close to touching when screwed completely in.
Unfortunately, I've spent hours trying to follow link and sync procedures in two separate repair books, and I've found myself no closer than when I started. I may spend hours more trying to undo what I've done once I can figure out where I'm at now.
I also have a 25 hp Merc I converted from tiller to remote control without a hitch. But this one's got me baffled. Help!

See my "timing and sync" post here - use the search function. It's much more
"English friendly" than any of the manuals.

-W

I found the post you referred to, and yes indeed, it is in plainer English than the books. I'll get out there this morning and take another shot at it. I'll report my progress. Thanks!

OK, I went out there and found I was really making headway using the simpler instructions. Then I found I wasn't able to make the ignition timing change. So, I peeked below the flywheel and found a plastic ear dangling from the end of the rod.
Whether it had been that way or I got a bit too aggressive is beside the point now. Since I don't have the means, I'll need to get the flywheel taken off and replace the broken part.
I expect good results next time around. Thanks for making things so clear.
