Hi,

I have a 1977 75 hp Chrysler. It has been sitting a few weeks since starting it last and I decided to pull it out of the garage and start the motor in a tub of water to make sure everything was working before taking it out this week. It took several minutes of trying to start before it finally turned over. When it did I let it run for a little while to make sure it was pumping water, which it was. Then I turned it off.

Now it won't start at all. When I turn the key I get nothing. The starter does not pop up or try to engage the fly wheel so it doesn't even crank. Any help on where to start with this issue would be appreciated.

Check the neutral interlock switch. The switch is lockated in the bottom cowl to the lef,t just at the shift cam. The switchbutton shall be deprest in neutral, it allow current to flow to the starter solenoid.

If the switch is okey then check if the solenoid is "clicking" when you try to start and measure the voltage at the solenoid control terminal (yellow wire).
It should be 12VDC when trying to start.

You can also try to jumpstart it. Put a thick wire from battery + (plus) terminal direct to starter + (plus) terminal.
If the starter turns over and engage the flywheel, you may have a bad starter solenoid..

There is no clicking from the solenoid when I try to start it. Where on the starter is the plus terminal usually located?

No Title

So it looks like the positive on the left is the battery to the solenoid and the positive on the right is the solenoid to the starter. Is that right?

Nordin,

Thannks a lot. I found the neutral interlock switch and it was not depressed. I messed with the button some but it wont stay in. Is it supposed to be pressed in? After I pushed it in some, it did start cranking when I tried to start. Seems like I have a bad switch huh?

The interlock switch shall be depressed by the adjustable cam that is mounted on the shifterlever. Adjust it so the button is depressed when the engine is at neutral.
You may have some lasch in the remotecable,, adjust it so the switch will be depressed depending if there is some lasch or not.

Your remote control needs to be in neutral as mentioned by Nordin, If your remote is in neutral and the gear cam is not depressing the neutral switch, your cables or cam may be out of adjustment.

Thanks guys. I adjusted the cam and it seems to be starting fine now. Really appreciate it!
