I have a 1977 140 that has no tale tell just expells water from the two ports in the exaust housing. My question is should the water temperatue be the same coming out of both ports.I have noticed that the water coming out the starboard port is always cooler than the portside water.

Your engine has two thermostats, one for each head. Are you getting a hot horn warning? Does one head feel hotter than the other? At idle, a water mist coming from both exhaust relief ports is normal.

No hot warning horn and both heads feel normal operating temperature plenty of water out of both ports just a noticeable difference of temperature, starboard side water always cooler than port side. Just trying to figure out if this is normal.

Possible that one of the thermostats is stuck open. Running cooler than normal is not recommended long term. You may want to have a look in the thermostat housing and test the two stats, or just replace them.
