You can roll the gelcoat and put it on thick. You can then sand it to remove orange peel and bumps. It's air inhibited cured. so tape plastic over the area and wait a day. It'll be nice and hard and ready for fairing. Hardest part will be matching the colors. Even PRO'S struggle with that.
